“Uproar” is an original oil on canvas framed 1695 x 1390mm created by Ian Mackenzie.
 
This artwork is framed in a traditional 2.5 inch black wooden surround with a light coloured insert. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity which is signed and verified by the artist.
 
 
The Story Behind “Uproar”
 
This is the second of two paintings capturing the tragedy of the murder of Lynette White in Cardiff Bay on Valentine’s Day 1988.
 
What followed was one of the most controversial police murder hunts the UK has ever experienced. This culminated in a serious miscarriage of justice, the death of a judge, witness prosecutions and imprisonment, a notorious police corruption trial, and a ground-breaking DNA led investigation to capture the real murderer.
 
The local community of Cardiff’s world-famous Tiger Bay was shattered for decades. The murderer was on the loose, the streets were deemed unsafe and promised investments failed to appear.
 
A neighbourhood ripped apart taking sides as police sought the assailant, witness stories changed to suit the need, and families attempted to protect their own as the pressure boiled.
 
This artwork represents the whole of this community coming together to attempt to keep the victim alive knowing now what would ensue and how devastating this loss of life would be for so many if she passed away.
 
Each hand depicts a faction of the community or an institution who in some way shape or form was involved or affected by the actions of one man, the murderer Jeffrey Gafoor.
