The Story Behind “The Song of the Siren"

Was that a melodic voice between the crash of the waves on the side of the ship he thought? In the middle of nowhere, the night watch peered out to sea, cautious of the old tales of sailors past.

His heart warmed with his night whiskey to keep the chill at bay.

The voice drifted to him again. This time pulling at his desire, complementing him like the women of the tavern, but far more pleasing and sensual.

He stood at the rail leaning over, total truth and wisdom promised by the rising siren from the depths.

His abandoned post caused the ship to steer towards the jagged rocks.

The siren reached up and took his hand, the beads of pearl her only attire.

The ship lurched towards its fate. The sailor’s soul coveted by sweet pureness that belied the evil that enticed him.

A rough grasp around his body as arms grappled to deny his fall. The soft desirable hand still clasped his wrist and pulled.

The fate of the ship and all that sailed froze, precariously balanced, as the night was filled with the Song of the Siren.
